Cabbage Soup Diet

The cabbage soup diet is one of the liquid-based diet plans around. This is attractive because you only need to cook the soup and follow the diet regimen for the week.

The claim:
Lose ten pounds in a week.

The method:
There are two important components to this diet plan: the cabbage soup recipe and how to incorporate the soup into the eating plan.

The Cabbage Soup Recipe

Slice six green onions (spring onions), on a non-stick pot, sauté on medium heat until the onions are white or transparent. Cut 2 green peppers in half and eliminate the seeds. Further cutting of the green peppers so that you can actually eat them is recommended. Add the peppers to the pot. Take the outer leafs layers off the half-a-head of cabbage and cut into small pieces. Add to the pot after thorough washing. Clean and cut three carrots, 10 oz of mushrooms a bunch of celery, and add to the pot. Add in one or two cans of tomatoes.

For water amount, use approximately 12 cups of water. You can also use 8 cups of water plus 48 oz of Low Sodium V8 juice. Cover the pot and put on low heat. Simmer for 2 hours in this low heat. Your soup is done, but it contains little or no flavour. One or two bouillon cubes as well as spices and curry powder are optional additions to your soup. Do not use salt.

You are allowed to drink black coffee or tea, cranberry juice (no sugar) and water for the duration of the diet.

The Eating Plan

Day 1: Eat any kind of fruit except bananas. Only the soup and fruits can be eaten on this day.
Day 2: Eat all the green leafy vegetables you want along with the soup. The veggies can be eaten raw or you can steam them. Don’t eat dry beans, peas and corn. For dinner, you can have a baked potato with a sliver of butter. No fruit for this day.
Day 3: Eat all the soup, fruits and vegetables you want. But don’t eat a baked potato for dinner.
Day 4: Eat around 8 bananas throughout the day and drink skim milk. Your soup can be taken during normal meal times. The objective is to curb your craving for sweets.
Day 5: Eat 10-20 ounces of beef throughout the day along with around 6 pieces of fresh tomatoes. Take 6 to 8 glasses of water wash away uric acid. The soup must be eaten at least once. For beef substitute, eat broiled or baked chicken or fish.
Day 6: Eat beef (one or 2 slices of steak!) and vegetables. Eat the cabbage soup at least once.
Day 7: Eat brown rice, unsweetened fruit juice and vegetables until you’re stuffed. Eat the soup at least once.

The catch:

This is not for those that easily get tired of the same kind of food. The cabbage soup is watery and bland, and will not fill you up. However, it can be a good substitute for your usual fare when you feel hungry.
